Tawas Point Lighthouse, Lake Huron, Michigan,
Sunset photograph of the Tawas Point Lighthouse located near the northern entrance to Saginaw Bay, just off Tawas Bay in Lake Huron. The first lighthouse at this location (know then as Ottawa Point) was a put in service in 1853 as a rubble stone tower, with a cast iron light room and a fixed white light. The current tower was completed and began operation in 1877. This 67 foot brick and masonry structure experienced a number of modifications, upgrades and changes through the years and is still in operation today, using the original Fresnel Lens installed in first lighthouse (and subsequently moved to the new tower) in 1856.
This is not only a interesting Great Lakes historical building, but also a great place to view amazing sunrises over Lake Huron and/or beautiful sunsets over Tawas Bay. Pay a visit if you are in the area.
Image would be a great addition to your cottage decor, living room, den or office.
